This species of Heliamphora was discovered several years ago and was often called Heliamphora ionasi in error. It occurs both on the top of Ilu tepui and Tramen Tepui. While Heliamphora ionasi is mainly found at the lower altitudes and at shady spots on the plateaus, the species prefers sunny locations.
